Working tax credit is a benefit for working and self-employed people in the UK who have low incomes.

If you don’t have children, you can apply for Working Tax Credit if:
you are at least 25 years old and work at least 30 hours a week;
you are at least 16 years old and work at least 16 hours a week and are eligible for a disability supplement;

you are at least 60 years old and work at least 16 hours a week.


In the case of people raising a child, the condition for applying for Working Tax Credit is 16 years or more and one of the following conditions is met:
if you are a single parent, you must work at least 16 hours a week;
the joint weekly working time must be at least 24 hours a week, with one partner having to work a minimum of 16 hours a week;
if one of the partners works at least 16 hours a week and is eligible for supplements and allowances for people with disabilities;
you are at least 60 years old and work at least 16 hours a week;
if one partner works at least 16 hours a week and the other person is disabled or in a hospital or prison.
